Movie (DVD) Reviews

I have been borrowing a ton of DVDs the past few weeks, so I am going to 'chronicle' my movie madness stint.

I just watched:

The Experiment (Das Experiment) In german *It was.. disturbing..

Synopsis: 20 men from different walks of life decide to participate in a medical experiment, for various reasons but mostly for the money. 14 days in a prison environment. 8 men will be guards and the rest, prisoners.
Needless to say, they get more than they bargained for, as the tender fabric of civility quickly tears apart.
A very compelling and disturbing film, I feel it shows how a certain environment can shape a person's character, or even change it. How the feeling of having power can make people go too far.

Watch it! If you appreciate foreign films *It is in german* with a good story and good cinematography. *M18*

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
*Another great movie from Studio Ghibli, they never disappoint (so far).
A touching, compelling story of the bravery of one girl who would do anything for her Kingdom. This animated movie has an unlying message about conservation.*

Watch it! If you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki and like his style of blending action with alien forms and a message to the public

On rental:

Crash
Finding Neverland
Cake
The Brothers Grimm
ElizabethTown
Porco Rosso

Movies I watched the past few weeks:

Casshern *so so boring, a wannabe futuristic version of WW2?*

Exocism of Emily Rose *Not at all scary, disappointing*

16 blocks *Hmm.. Not bad, I've always liked Bruce Willis -grinz-*

V for Vendetta *I loved it for the plot and cinematography*

Howl's Moving Castle *I fell in love with it, Howl*

Hoodwinked *Amusing if you watch it with kids, not so when watched with only adults*

Windstruck *The usual 'My Sassy Girl' formula, funny and touching and corny*

The Final Cut *poignent, similar to 'One Hour Photo'*

My Super Ex-Girlfriend
*.. funnyish, nothing to write home about*

Click *Very amusing, I wish I had that remote*

Tokyo Drift *I did not like the lead, i think he is a lousy, expressionless actor. But the cars.. Woo Hoo*

Umizaru *Lots of naked butts LOL*

Taking Lives *Erm.. the twist was kinda cool, but predictable. Highlite for guys, jolie's boob*

Date Movie *sucky sucky, horribly corny and a pathetic attempt to achieve what Scary Movie did*

Shutter *Cliched and unoriginal, watch it for the Orlando Bloom lookalike. Well, lookquitealike*

Long Hu Men *Similar to 'Feng Yun' type of movie, i liked it*

I know I watched more, but i still can't remember the titles...
