Bring on the clowns

I got the job!!!!

Yippee!!

It's just a 2 month project and the pay isn't as good as I thought it would have been.. But I got it!

Despite having no IT background.. Lucky me =)

I start on Monday.. End of my free-wheeling days..

Hurricanes are named after me.
I am strong. I am tempestuous.
I am the calm of Audrey Hepburn.
Before the storm of Charlie's Angel.
I may not be able to read maps sometimes.
But at least I can ask for directions.
I love shoes, one pair is never enough.
I can do everthing Fred Astaire did.
Backwards and in high heels.

I am a woman, hear me roar.

Kick me when I'm down

I was so sick yesterday, I couldn't go for my interview. Shucks

It really sucks coz' I was all prepared, but I caught the flu on Sunday. The whole night I was feverish and clammy. The next day (monday) I felt like death warmed over. Haiz..

To make matters worse, I started to get stomach cramps as well! Darnit!

I had no choice but to postpone the interview. Which I feel will just be a black mark against me. *sigh*

Anyways, still not fully recovered today, but I have to go for a dental appointment later. And collect my camera. So I have to drag myself out of the house :(

A story about a girl and her shoes

I hope, I hope, I hope I get the job. *Cross fingers*

Let me tell you a story..

Once upon a time, there lived a little girl.
She was skinny and had broom-stick straight hair.
Parted severely down the middle and usually in a pony-tail, she wished she had curly hair.
Relatives often commented on her thin-ness, not helped by the long loose tees she liked to wear.

Then puberty hit, she started to get lumps and bumps in all the right places.
Relatives stopped commenting on her thin-ness.
She got a layered haircut and it was no longer as straight as it used to be.
A few years onward, her hair is even more wavy.
It falls around her shoulders, disarrayed and frizzy.
Then she wished, for her old straight hair, which was now in fashion also achieved by rebonding.

Older and older, she piled on the weight.
Lumps and bumps in the wrong places too.
But her hair was tame, and she was happy.
To a certain extent, you would have been too..
She loved clothes, but most didn't fit well.
She loved shoes, and luckily they loved her feet too.

She wanted to lose weight, but couldn't make herself.
The bumps on her face got worse, and she started to get depressed.
The shoes she loved stop loving her feet.
Perhaps it was because her feet got too big.
Then shoes got more beautiful, and designs were new.
But these new designs, hated her feet too.
But one fine day, she was asked to make a choice.
Shoes or feet? Feet or shoes?
Which would she choose?

I choose shoes..

Ok ok ok.. I had nothing better to do.. And I was fantasizing about shoes. I really really love footwear. Especially old fashion heeled mary janes. I have a fetish for heels now. Those cute covered heels, peeptoe heels. With straps, slingbacks. Oh my!

But.. Like i mentioned in my story.. The shoes I buy don't really like my feet much. Probably because I have got broadish feet, and it is no mean feat for me to squeeze them into a pointy-toed pair of heels. And the fact that i seldom actually wear heels. Haiz..

And yes, I am going to choose shoes over my feet. I am going to wear all the beautiful, shiny, patent heels I want. Heck the blisters and callouses I'm going to get.

Hansaplast will be my best friend in the weeks to come.

I can be so shallow. *bah*

Coming Soon to a Blog Near You

I just watched

Crash *This one of the best films I have watched so far*

Synopsis: *A Brentwood housewife and her D.A. husband. A Persian store owner. Two police detectives who are also lovers. An African-American television director and his wife. A Mexican locksmith. Two car-jackers. A rookie cop. A middle-aged Korean couple.

They all live in Los Angeles. And during the next 36 hours, they will all collide.

Challenging and thought-provoking, CRASH takes a provocative, unflinching look at the complexities of racial tolerance in contemporary America.

Funny, powerful, and always unpredictable, CRASH bodily reminds us of the importance of tolerance as it ventures beyond colour lines... and uncovers the truth of our shared humanity.*

(*Excerpts taken from crashfilm.com)

Watch it! It really is a moving film. It touched me, deep down.. The diversed lives of the *multi-ethnic cast of characters* are intricately woven together and very believable, making this a truly *compelling urban drama*. Definitely a must see.

Finding Neverland *Another quirky Johnny Depp Movie?

Synopsis: *Finding Neverland is that rare work of art that transcends the medium of film and becomes a spirit-altering experience. Be transported to a place that nurturingly reassures us that the cycle of life is indeed good.

Playwright JM Barrie in 1903 when, down on his luck with theater flops, unfulfilled by a marriage of Victorian standards to a beautiful but aloof and social climbing wife Mary, and with writer's block, he encounters the Llewellyn Davies family - a widow Sylvia and her four boys, George, Jack, Michael and Peter- playing blissfully in Kensington Gardens. Barrie is captivated, draws the boys to him with his patient and infectious enthusiasm for play, and bonds with this family, gaining the obvious seeds for his highest achievement or creation, Peter Pan.

How these seeds grow, despite the soft, yet supportive, growling of his producer Charles Frohman and the not so soft interference of Sylvia's wealthy haughty mother Madame du Maurier, form the storyline of this film. This simple story of the sanctity of the inner child.*

(*Excerpts taken from imdb.com)

Watch it! If you want to know where the play, Peter Pan originated from and if you love Johnny Depp. He plays an imaginatively quirkyish© role, as JM Barrie the playwright. I like quirky characters and movies with wonderful scores.. The music scores were rather effervescent. Whimsical and delightful, a fanciful, skimming the surface, film of how JM Barrie came up with the play Peter Pan.

CAKE *Romantic comedy

Synopsis:*Pippa McGee is a bridesmaid. Again!

Taking a weekend break from her freewheeling life as a travel writer and toxic bachelorette, Pippa returns to her hometown to serve as yet another bridesmaid at yet another wedding. From the moment she gets off the plane, it’s a disaster. Jet-lagged and behind schedule, Pippa makes a wedding spectacle of herself, downing martinis, dirty dancing and hitting on strangers.

She struggles home tipsy, prompting an argument with her father Malcolm, a tyrannical widower and publishing mogul. In the morning, she wakes up to discover Malcolm has had a heart attack. Later, lying frail in his hospital bed, Malcolm has only one thing on his mind: he needs an editor for one of his magazines. In a desperate effort to please him, Pippa volunteers, which magazine? Travel, design, the arts? No. He needs her to run Wedding Bells.

Can Pippa McGee adapt to a 9-to-5 life? Write about puffy dresses after trekking in Bali? Deal with being reminded on a daily basis that she is 29 years old and completely, utterly single?*

(*Taken from tribute.ca)

Watch it! If you like Heather Graham (Pippa), David Sutcliffe (Pippa's love interest) or Sandra Oh (Pippa's BFF) just to name a few. Or if you are really into simple, cliched romantic comedies with passable acting by the leads (Heather, David). I admit, I borrowed this DVD only because i saw 'Sandra Oh' on it. Can't blame me, I'm a Grey's Anatomy fiend. It is barely worth the $3 rental fee. Heather has an irritating 'facial tic' which she thinks actually makes her look cute when she does it. NOT! What can I say? If you have 94mins to kill, nothing else better to do and would like to see Heather Graham acting all cutesy, watch CAKE!

There are a few funny bits, and maybe borderline hilarious scenes. But not good enough for me. I guess I can console myself by telling myself that I paid $3 to watch Sandra Oh, in a tutu skirt and a few outrageous outfits. *grinz*

The glow of love is the most beautiful makeup that a sweetheart can wear.

Did you hear right??? Yes, indeed.. I am doing a post on my favourite, very affordable and seldom used, cosmetics.

Most people who know me well are also aware that i seldom, if ever, put on makeup.

Not only because I'm too lazy, but mostly because my complexion just sucks =/

But, I am only human... and female! Of course I do use cosmetics on rare or special occasions *grinz* So this is where i will show my very meagre and minimal collection.

Enjoy babes..

First up, the ever innocuous lippy. What a wonderful creation.. Able to puff up too thin lips and 'lipo' too thick lips.

I have sexy (see: thick) lips, so i am not a fan of lip glosses which make them look collagen injected. This lippy from TheFaceShop, is smooth, not too heavy and slightly glossy.. Me loveees it!

High Gloss in Sparkling Peach

Hmm.. Mine is in Sparkling Peach*

My previous trusty lippy is by Kate, Kanebo.. I still have it, it can last me a long time more.. Haha.. I have been using it since my mama bought it for me ages and ages ago! I know, I know.. Makeup should be thrown out regularly.. But i have barely used it! So it will stay, tucked in my makeup pouch, until I go clubbing or something..

Mine is a sheer pinkish tone, provides a subtle colour and comes in a slick slim silver tube.

Kate Rouge Melting Lipstick RD-4

Next up! Eye products for pretty Peepers! Ok, i admit.. I don't have my own.. I use whatever is in my mama's closet. But I do have my prefered stuff.

Quadra Eyeshadow palette by Chanel. The palette is 95. Sparkling Satins. The colours are intense and vibrant, which is the main difference between cheap and expensive shadows. I use this on special special occasions.

Les 4 Ombres De Chanel 95. Sparkling Satins

This is just an example. I think it is 27. Golden Eyes

Fasio's 3D Perfect Eyes range D-12. 'Beige shades that exude elegance and sexiness' That's what the website says.. Haha.. This is part of my 'minimal makeup' routine.. Nothing too intense or obvious.. Just to brighten up my peepers a'lil.

Fasio 3D Perfect Eyes range D-12

Mascara! I hate hate hate mascara with a vengeance. But it is an essential to get 'pretty peepers'. Why do I hate mascara? Let me see.. The fact that if i were to use a non waterproof one, it will probably rain and smudge. Making me look more like a panda. And if I use a waterproof type? It is hell to remove! Oil based makeup removers wreck havoc on my skin, so.. It's a lose-lose situation. Coupled with the fact that my lashes do not curl evenly, wearing mascara is seriously a chore..

So.. Mascaras are shoved wayyyy.. to the back of my makeup routine, and only used when absolutely necessary.

This is the only mascara i could put up with, because it provides a very light coating and the mini-brush is godsent! But I had to dump it, coz' it was starting to smell funny *lol*

Maybelline Lash Discovery in black

I got a pair of fake lashes last Xmas, have yet to try it out. *giggles* I'll see how that pans out. I keep getting images of me with fake lashes (very nice) and then one of them hanging over my eye after a few hours! I am getting the Ettusais Mini Hyper Curl Mascara to replace my old faithful.

Ettusais Mini Hyper Curl

For my makeup base, I swear by Ettusais. They've got great makeup for problem skin like mine. It does not aggravate my acne and i do not get bad breakouts after a night of partying.

This is a great concealer because
1. It blends well even if you do not use a liquid foundation over it
2. It can cover all the little spots and marks I have. Pimples too!

Ettusais Medicated Acne Concealer

I seldom use liquid foundation even though it provides wonderful coverage. I'm afraid that it will clog my pores too much! But on extra special occasions, i use an Ettusais one.

Normally i just use this loose powder. I love it because it is light, yet provides sufficient coverage.

Ettusais Day Protect Powder

And i use pressed powder for touchups. It comes in this nifty, slick, compact case. My mama actually got my name engraved on it! Yes, a gift from my mama last Xmas.. Lovely..

The last thing on my list.. Blushers.. I have naturally rosyish© cheeks, so i don't have to use much blusher. But a hint of colour, peachy and pink, is what I like.

This Ettusais blusher is a souffle. It gives an extremely subtle, sheer peachy colour to my cheeks. Although I do not have smooth skin, it glides on smoothly. Apply a few 'coats' to have a more obvious effect. It is not heavy at all and the poppy orange colour brightens my face considerably. Mine is in Poppy Orange, my sister uses Tulip Pink and my mama, Sweet Red Pea. We are all Ettusais fans!

Ettusais Souffle Cheek in Poppy Orange

That comes to the end of my cosmetics post! I had fun! Haha..

You can tell how low maintenance I am *smirks*

But always remember..

The glow of love is the most beautiful makeup that a sweetheart can wear.

Movie (DVD) Reviews

I have been borrowing a ton of DVDs the past few weeks, so I am going to 'chronicle' my movie madness stint.

I just watched:

The Experiment (Das Experiment) In german *It was.. disturbing..

Synopsis: 20 men from different walks of life decide to participate in a medical experiment, for various reasons but mostly for the money. 14 days in a prison environment. 8 men will be guards and the rest, prisoners.
Needless to say, they get more than they bargained for, as the tender fabric of civility quickly tears apart.
A very compelling and disturbing film, I feel it shows how a certain environment can shape a person's character, or even change it. How the feeling of having power can make people go too far.

Watch it! If you appreciate foreign films *It is in german* with a good story and good cinematography. *M18*

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
*Another great movie from Studio Ghibli, they never disappoint (so far).
A touching, compelling story of the bravery of one girl who would do anything for her Kingdom. This animated movie has an unlying message about conservation.*

Watch it! If you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki and like his style of blending action with alien forms and a message to the public

Movie Madness

I want this..

*pouts*

Anyone going to Japan?

Anyways, after a long hiatus I finally have the mood to start blogging abit. Yes, my internet did conk up for about 3 weeks. But after it was ok again, i just didn't feel like posting anything. I feel so bored and antisocial. Haiz..

What have I been up too??? Well, this week was DVDfest for me. I borrowed like.. hmm... more then 10 movies i think. I quite abit upset that the Videoezy nearest to my place is moving out =( *cries* Why, oh, why??? When i was already planning to borrow every single movie i have missed over the years. Not only is the location convenient, the renting fee is lower as well. Lower then all the other outlets. And now, i only have 10 days left before they stop renting. *pouts*

So I am feverishly trying to borrow as many movies, and watch them, as I can. I only have $11 left in my account. *sighs*

Just watched V for Vendetta, i loved it. Why? I think it's because of the charming accented way that 'V' speaks. I can't believe it's Hugo Weaving, but i feel abit disappointed that they did not reveal his scarred face. Even tho i think it is a wise decision. However, i do not believe that Evey did not even peek. LOL.. I would have, just a little peek.. Overall, the plot was well thought out and every actor performed splendidly. Oh my, how English I am starting to sound. *gasps*

Lame..

Why i couldn't believe it was Hugo Weaving at first:

From a man... to...

A Sci-fi Villian, Agent Smith... to...

An Elven King, Lord Elrond... to...

A masked Crusader, V...

But i should have guessed it was him, by his silken accent. Like cashmere, or cigar smoke curling around your head. Like expensive perfume, coy and lingering. Man, am I romantisizing him or what?!!

Movies I watched the past week:

I'm going back on Sunday and Tuesday to squeeze in a few more rentals. I am such a movie buff!!

I am looking for a full time job, not actively, but I'm keeping my options open.
